John has been in business for himself for many years, so he has a special appreciation for the decision-making environment and challenges encountered by many of his clients, many of whom are executives or business owners.

John is a real student of some of the complexities of business and personal needs analysis. His academic interest in economics and continued study of financial and investment issues prepares him well for the expertise demanded by his clients. 

John considers continual learning as key to offering enhanced level of expertise.  In the last five years, John earned his CLU® credentials by successfully passing 8 courses and the CAP® designation by passing 3 courses with a study group that met at his office.  Both designations are offered by the internationally acclaimed American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.

As a wealth management advisor, he holds Series 6, 63, 65 and Series 7 licenses and is insurance licensed in about 20 states including KS and MO.

Associations and Memberships

John serves as the Government Relations Delegate for his Network Office (All of KS and half MO).  The delegate is responsible for communication of key state and national public policy issues affecting our industry with the members of our Network Office.  John visits Capitol Hill at least once a year to meet with public officials to represent our clients and industry’s interest in protecting savings and insurance benefits tax favored status.

John met with Chief Legislative Directors for Kansas Senators Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran and US Rep from 3rd district Kevin Yoder. John sat next to KS US Senator Pat Roberts at a very small group luncheon hosted by Northwestern Mutual. Roberts is a key member of the Senate Finance Committee.

Supporting National Childhood Cancer Research Program

Northwestern Mutual launched a national program in 2012 to support research and care for childhood cancer. To date, Northwestern Mutual has raised more than $10 million and  funded over 105,000 hours of research to help discover life-saving treatments. We are honored to stand with medical professionals, nonprofits and families who are fighting this disease. We have also partnered with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF),a national nonprofit that is one of the leaders in funding childhood cancer research.

John Goodwin & his family compete in the Annual Roots n’ Wings 5K and 10K run which raises money for Childhood Cancer Research at the Northwestern Mutual Annual Meeting July 22 in Milwaukee. To date, we have contributed over $17 million to the cause and funded over 200,000 hours of research. Since 2012, our employees and financial professionals have worked to accelerate the search for childhood cancer cures while providing support for families facing the disease and survivors struggling with late effects of treatment.
